Aberfeldy
Aberfeldy were formed in May 2002 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Riley Briggs (singer/songwriter) met Ian Stoddart (drums), Ken McIntosh (bass) and Sarah McFadyen (fiddle/vocals) in the famous Edinburgh folk music venue The Royal Oak where he served his musical apprenticeship playing three nights a week for the great Scottish public. Together they began working with producer and folk musician of ‘Easy Club’ fame Jim Sutherland to record some of Riley’s own material and were joined by Ruth Barrie (keyboard/vocals) after spotting her singing in the Bongo Club cafe. After a great degree of experimentation the group hit upon a back-to basics technique used by artists like Sinatra and Elvis in the 1950’s. Their use of only one microphone helped the band to achieve the fresh sound that perfectly sets off the five piece's beautiful boy-girl harmonies and gentle acoustic sensibilities. Aberfeldy spent the next year honing their sound, setting up a weekly residency in the Forest Arts Café and playing regularly in Edinburgh and touring the North of Scotland. In the midst of their busy schedules the band were working hard to develop and record their debut album with Jim. Demos of the songs began to attract considerable interest and the band received airplay on Radio One. In May 2003 the band were picked from over 500 bands to play the Tennents Lager T-Break showcase week in Edinburgh. By September Aberfeldy had completed work on their debut album and made plans to release it themselves. In January 2004 the band were picked to play at Scottish International showcase Celtic Connections at the Glasgow Barrowlands. There the band were spotted by a radio plugger who sent their fledgling album straight to Geoff Travis at Rough Trade Records. A few days later Geoff flew up to meet Aberfeldy and the band were signed to the great independent UK label. Aberfeldy released their first single, a limited edition 7 “ promo “Vegetarian Restaurant” in June 2004. This was followed by the release of their critically acclaimed album, “Young Forever” in August 2004. Amongst a batch of great press the album was given 9/10 in the NME, alongside a “Single of the Week” accolade for first proper single “Heliopolis by Night” released in September 2004, which reached number 66 in the UK charts. The album “Young Forever” was also released on the Rough Trade Records US label in August 2004 and simultaneously released in Europe, Asia and Australasia in September 2004. Aberfeldy have played all over Scotland and the UK since their signing to Rough Trade. They were selected to play the recent London Calling showcase at the Amsterdam Paradiso and will be making their way to Groningen to play the Eurosonic Festival in January 2005. The band will be headlining at the Celtic Connections Festival again this year before heading off on a UK tour with singer/songwriter David Kitt. Aberfeldy were also selected to play at the 2004 Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Festival – the World’s biggest street party – supporting New York’s finest – Blondie and the Scissor Sisters. The group have been invited to play at the annual SXSW festival in Austin Texas in March 2004. Look out for their next single Love Is An Arrow and accompanying music video featuring lovelorn Eskimos. Released on February 14th 2005, Valentine’s Day.

Airspiel
AirSpiel 'are a five-piece that play jangly guitar pop rock and offer up simple catchy songs. Stand-out track 'Home' starts out acoustically and builds to a full-on rocking tune, while its catchy chorus is sure to be a big crowd favourite. With a good ear for a melodic tune, AirSpiel are a band that can only grow and grow. They are the sort of band we should be pushing in Scotland - now.' A certain man had a donkey, which had carried the corn-sacks to the mill indefatigably for many a long year. But his strength was going, and he was growing more and more unfit for work. Then his master began to consider how he might best save his keep. But the donkey, seeing that no good wind was blowing, ran away and set out on the road to Glasgow. There, he thought, I can surely be a town-musician. When he had walked some distance, he found a hound lying on the road, gasping like one who had run till he was tired. What are you gasping so for, you big fellow, asked the donkey. "Ah," replied the hound, as I am old, and daily grow weaker, and no longer can hunt, my master wanted to kill me, so I took to flight, but now how am I to earn my bread."

AlbaRoss
AlbaRoss is the alias of Ross Adamson, a 28 year old fifer now residing in London. He has been making music for the last 9 or so years under various names most recently [and for the longest period] as abelsonofadam. He makes off kilter electronic music and delivers the words he writes mainly in the form of rap. Being one of those people who in general day to day life just won't stop talking [and has been told; 'loves the sound of his own voice'] the pure phonetics of the words pronounced and the sheer volume of them that can be packed into a song were appealing from the first listening of Black Sunday by Cypress Hill as a [very] impressionable 12 year old. Ross is working at present on various collaborative projects as well as rehearsing and booking shows for summer '08 with the view to gradually recording his debut LP over the summer and autumn months for the very wonderful Crystal Wish back home in Edinburgh. As much as he enjoys doing this he dislikes writing in the third person. http://www.myspace.com/crystalwishrecords

Alex Smoke
Welcome to the wonderful world of Alex Smoke, the young producer from Glasgow whose potent album, ‘Incommunicado’ is about to be released on Soma Records. This is Alex Smoke’s eagerly awaited debut and what a masterpiece it is. Already a name to watch in the underground electronic circuit he is on the cusp of getting the recognition he deserves. Alex Smoke is part of a generation of producers who are blurring the boundaries between minimal, techno and electronica. This music still may live on the dancefloor but it occupies so much more. Drawing from a myriad of influences including dub, electro, grime, latin and experimental pop, Alex Smoke has concocted a deeply emotive artist album that is mysterious, melancholic and inspiring. Alex comments “I just want it to be musically fulfilling, irrespective of the what genre the listener is usually in to.”

We are, Gerry Campbell, (lead vocals, guitar), Brian Campbell, (Bass, vocals) Ruth Mills, (synths, guitar, vocals) and Neil Grant (Drums, Percussion) Brothers, Gerry and Brian met Ruth at school in Bellshill. “There weren't many people who sang Gershwin for kicks where we’re from” says Gerry, “so I knew I had to find out what she was about. We all started exchanging tapes of whatever was firing us up, Prince, old Two Tone records, My Bloody Valentine…” Ruth adds. “Gerry and Brian are both impressive musicians with a sensitive and expressive approach that appealed to me greatly. We all share a flat in the east end of Glasgow now. After a long spell of recording in our kitchen, our labours bore fruit with the release of our debut single ‘perfection’ late 2003. Our second release ‘Lists of Three’ is due out late summer 2005.” Armed with a drum machine and a lot of guts, Gerry recalls “We played loads of gigs as a three piece last year. Choosing strange venues that don’t normally host bands, a lap dancing club, a hairdressers, friends flats… then, on New Years Eve 2004, after a roof raising gig at The End Of The Month Club, Glasgow, a cheeky tyke from the Highlands came up and told us we really needed a drummer.” Enter Neil Grant to take over the percussive reigns with machine like accuracy.

Barry Price
Barry(19) was born and raised in Scotland. He is currently sitting an Honours Degree in Music Technology and Commercial Music. It is only just recently that his music has stepped up from a hobby into a more semi-professional level. His ascent was fast and with just an acoustic guitar, an ear for music and a strong hope to take it to the top; no-one has doubted him yet. Over the last year, he has been touring making his name more and more popular throughout his local area and has rapidly picked up lots of performing, recording and producing experience. Over a short period of time after this, his name kept on coming up in the main cities and towns of Scotland such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Falkirk. His Mailing List is accumulating fast from people signing up at every gig he plays, with more and more new faces turning up to watch him play again and again. He is currently working with a musician from the band, Runrig, a very successful Scottish band who have sold albums all over Europe (Germany, Denmark, Belgium etc...). He has taught Barry the main necessities of the music industry, performing and recording. He has definitely brought out the best in Barry’s music ability. "Live performances are one of the best ways to promote a band, so I always make sure I am on top form before I walk on stage. Treat each gig professionally” - Barry Price He recently had his demo ‘Living in my shoes’ and ‘ If I Lost Myself’ played on Scottish National radio (Beat 106) and became what’s known as a Beat Breaker (one of the best emerging talents in Scotland). He has also been in touch with Radio 1’s Vic Galloway and who only had great things to say about Barry’s Music. He has had interviews with Central FM and they liked his music so much at the station they wanted him as part of the Central FM road show which tours all around Scotland. Barry came very close to winning the ‘Miller music Competition’ hosted by Beat 106 to show the best of Scotland’s Un-Signed talent. Barry was runner up 2nd Place out of the 10 bands chosen to represent the best un-signed talent. His music career is slowly building and it is only a matter of time before he is spotted by the right person to make an impact on this era’s music industry.

Biffy Clyro
Simon Neil - guitar / vocals Ben Johnston - drums / vocals James Johnston - bass / vocals "The people that have heard us seem to love us. And that's the important thing: there's still so many more out there who'll potentially feel the same way. But our only real ambition is to be our own favourite band and I think we're succeeding." - Simon Neil In a time when the term punk rock is bandied about for easy access to credibility, Biffy Clyro are true exponents of a punk rock sound and ideal for 2003 - one which ensures everything centres around a constant musical (r)evolution They're signed to an independent label, still rehearse in the same YMCA room for £10 a week - and happily boast about the fact - and patently don't give a flying fig for notching up the obligatory Top 20 hits that are demanded of their contemporaries. Think back to all the great bands who have done it their way, who turned down or tuned up for no-one, regardless of commercial consequences. It's this attitude on which careers are built and respect earned. And so far for Biffy Clyro its working like a dream. The trio's recent thirty-date UK tour saw sold out shows the length and breadth of the country, with six hundred rapturous converts cramming into London Underworld to sing every single word to in what will turn out to be one of the capital's most over-subscribed gigs of 2003. A beautiful, beautiful sight. These recent rapturous shows are testament to Biffy Clyro's expanding fanbase, one which transcends the usual demographic, and draws in both young kids falling in and out of love for the first time and those who've been waiting patiently for a band who exude that same heart-stopping dynamic and raw, bloodied purity last heard with Nirvana in '91. Plus the high female quota shows is tribute to the refreshing feminine streak running through Simon Neil's lyrics - a real rarity in rock 'n' roll these days. "We're in for the long haul... this isn't about having 'hits' or having money" Formed by singer/guitarist Neil and drummer Ben Johnston in the mid-1990's while in their mid-teens, Biffy Clyro's formative years were a trial-by-fire apprenticeship that saw them quickly move on from their Nirvana + Guns N' Roses fixation and a brief period as Screwfish. Ben's twin brother came in on bass and Biffy Clyro debuted at a local youth centre supporting cult favourites Pink Kross. In 1997 the trio relocated to Glasgow to study audio engineering and electronics in music, but primarily to turn Biffy Clyro into a full-time proposition. As is the way for young men stepping out into the world the next couple of years saw the trio hardening their sound and broadening their musical horizons to take in the intelligent post-hardcore of Fugazi and the DC sound, influential emo originators such as Far and Mineral, the broken-hearted laments of Red House Painters and all manner of other such heroes of the alt-rock hinterlands. Five minutes in their company reveals Biffy Clyro to be true aficionados of music. Today they're namedropping Dillinger Escape Plan, Rush, Cave In, Stevie Wonder, tomorrow will bring a new discovery. So far, so what?, then. But then at some point Biffy Clyro got good. good. Debut single 'Iname' was unleashed in May 1999 by manager Dee Bahl, with the charmingly-titled 'thekidswhopoptodaytwillrocktomorrow' EP following soon after on Electric Honey (the label that released Belle & Sebastian's 'Tiger Milk' album). More importantly they played show after show, refining their taut, emotionally charged sound alongside fellow Scots Eska and Lapsus Linguae. Spotted playing the unsigned stage at 2000's T In The Park festival, they promptly signed to Beggars Banquet and released debut single - and Kerrang! Single Of The Week - '27' in October 2000. And that's when things really started happening. With all three members sharing vocal duties and Simon's heart-achingly powerful lyrics painting pictures of both despair and elation, betrayal and celebration, their fanbase swelled inconsiderably.Ê Off the back of blitzkrieg tours that saw the band hitting every town that would have them, Biffy Clyro recorded tracks with Paul Corkett (Placebo, Six By Seven) and Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Idlewild). 'Justboy' preceded debut album 'Blackened Sky', released in early 2001. A slow-burner complimented by seemingly endless shows alongside the cream of the Britrock crop and a European tour with The Cooper Temple Clause, ÔBlackened SkyÕ was one of the most critically-acclaimed underground albums of 2002. And its from the underground that Biffy Clyro shall rise to dizzier heights. There's only a year between the two albums, and that's a deliberate move. What's the point in being in a band otherwise? Get this: Biffy Clyro's new album 'The Vertigo Of Bliss' was recorded in one day. One day. Guns n' Roses they aren't. Thank God. Ensconced in Great Linford Manor studio with Chris Sheldon they ripped through a set of fifteen songs and spent the rest of the week on Playstation. The result is a rich, diverse album of angular post-hardcore / alt-rock. Call it what you want. Taking it's title from a phrase in contemporary novel 'I Lucifer', 'The Vertigo Of Bliss' is an inspired rush of emotion, contemplation and twisting melodies. Those in the know have had Biffy Clyro pegged as leading lights in a grass-roots scene for some time now. With their sophomore album, the likeable trio are set to soundtrack the lives of those whose path they cross. As Simon Neil says: "Guitar, bass, drums... it's been done before and it'll be done again. But if the song is amazing it doesn't matter. You can't polish a turd." And the name? Best not ask. Just listen with open ears.

And so began the saga of Binary Zero. Bass, Glitch, Techno and some hardcore Metal Guitar became the weapons of choice. The venue for this showdown......the world.

Boyfriend/Girlfriend
Boyfriend/Girlfriend are a melodic guitar, bass and drum three-piece that throw in synths, beats and boy/girl shouts to keep themselves entertained. Originally hailing from a small town with no scene or contemporaries and now spread throughout Stirling/Glasgow/Edinburgh, they attempt to make their own music that eschews typical topics, sounds and song formats. Inspired by Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Pixies and Idlewild and singing in their own central Scotland accents, they create an intriguing and different brand of alternative guitar rock.

/ “Boyfriend/Girlfriend argue their choruses assertively over insistent, agitated guitars, all exciting drum skitter-batter and flailing mazurka/prog endings, very like Scarce and Talking Heads when they were three having a water fight while adults argue war by the barbecue. [In their] rattle about disjointed pop guitar unit, everyone sings and this is as it should be.” - / 13th Note write up, August ’06 /

Cinephile
Cinephile's sound is derived from and inspired by the atmosphere created on the silver screen. Their music has been described as "the soundtrack to a film which doesn't exist", the eerie sonic reflection of a visual medium. Yet, what makes Cinephile different from their peers is not only the dramatic, tragic, seductive, haunting vocals or the unique production dynamic of the music and compositions, but the level of interaction that the overall output creates in the audience's collective psyche. Cinephile see their compositions as a means of getting away from just writing music. They are inspired by the thought that their work generates an atmosphere and depth of feeling that instills something beyond visual interpretation, appearing differently to each individual listener. Music, melody, vocals, samples, incidental parts, all merge together and evolve unplanned. Cinephile construct, deconstruct, reconstruct, feeling out the interaction between the sounds, creating a fluid mix, building it in layers until the final composition couldn't be further from it's origin. Film would be nothing without music; music is everything without film. Cinephile's sound is an audio storyboard with faceless actors - it's music for the ears, the eyes, and the mind.

Over the last couple of years Glasgow based four-piece, Cobra Grande, have crafted a batch of songs that effortlessly blend hard-edged rhythms with soaring guitars, synth lines and melodic vocal harmony. Their aim has been to create well-crafted tracks that capture an audience’s imagination while they dance. Recent positive responses to the band’s recordings and live shows have shown that the band are achieving their aim, with good reviews in The Scotsman, Daily Record, and a live session on the Radio 1 Scotland Vic Galloway Show.

Colette McKendrick
Colette McKendrick is a singer/songwriter from Glasgow who began her quest to be a successful musician at the age of eight, when she began learning to play the piano. Much of her work is still piano-based, although she often writes for guitar, and recently, for orchestra. For those unfamiliar with Colette's work, begin with Philip Glass or Michael Nyman, throw in some Kate Bush or Tori Amos and add the theatrics of The Cure or Cyndi Lauper and you may have an idea. Her powerful voice has broken a few microphones, as has, Laura Healy's, who has been performing backing vocals with Colette since they met in the school playground at the age of four. Colette's music attracts a diverse crowd, from young teen tearaways who enjoy the occasional swear word, to a more mature audience who relate to Colette's lyrics. Having suffered the loss of her boyfriend to cancer two years ago, Colette's songs take the listener on a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. Her range of styles from rock, to pop, to funk, are proving to be irresistible and so she is now pursuing the right publishing deal.

deadenstereo
deadenstereo are a rock band, who haven't always thought of themselves as such. Based in Edinburgh, they have gigged all over the country on the back of a little radio exposure, their day jobs and the belief that if one person goes away happy, the trip has been a success. 'Storyteller' is their current single/ep: a storming melodic rock single, with an incredible hook in the vien of the best from Idlewild, Radiohead, The Pixies, Foo Fighters or Smashing Pumpkins. You'll walk away wondering who the hell James Kelman is.... Supporting indie hero Neil Leyton and Valis (ex-Screaming Trees) have been highlights, and low lights are not worth the time it takes to type them. - for more info, releases, mp3s, photos, upcoming gigs, and the suprisingly good video for Storyteller, please visit: www.myspace.com/deadenstereo

Deathpodal
Deathpodal is a solo music project by someone called Alastair Chivers.

Named after a failing and almost defunct entertainment capsule, he played his first show in Stavanger, Norway to a packed hall full of OAP's. Deathpodal is currently looking for shows, and has embarked on recording a mini-album entitled Exu____Wow!

Deathpodal has supported the likes of Circulus, Paul Research (The Scars), Uncle John & Whitelock, Pete McConville, Amber and The Jinx.

-------------------------------------------------

"Deathpodal - man, mystery or soon-to-be living legend? There are many theories, but either way its clear that he is a sublimely talented artist whose music has a fragile beauty perfectly suited for a live setting. Whether its a transcendent triumph or a muddy swamp-soup of madness, his comeback is sure to be fascinating." - Michael MacLennan, The Herald

Degrassi
The band are: Michael Branagh - Drums/Vocals Bob Fairfoull - Bass Tommy "The Dime" Nicol - Guitar/Lead Vocals Scott "Cannibal" Smith - Guitar/Vocals www.degrassi.co.uk/degrassidisco.htm Based in Edinburgh Degrassi have received critical acclaim from such luminaries as: NME (bring it on band of the month), Radio 1, XFM, Drowned in Sound, Rocksound, Kerrang, Logo, Q and much of Scotland's music press. Degrassi have been a formidable force both on stage and in the studio. Building up a fierce reputation for vibrant and intense live performances, it was a only a matter of months before their biting sound of versatile complexities met the approving ears of BBC Radio One legend John Peel. On hearing their first studio recording (an unreleased 4 song session) he promptly offered the band their first Peel Session which was recorded and broadcast the following month to enthusiastic praise on air from the respected host. With time, increasingly enthusiastic reviews from publications as varied as The Scotsman, The List, The Sun, News of the World, The Evening News and NME.com, expressing their eager approval, were received, in addition to countless fanzine, webzine and underground publication endorsements. A 2nd invitation to the John Peel Show followed and a live session was recorded and broadcast, shortly followed by sessions for the BBC Session in Scotland's evening performance and BBC Radio Scotland's 'AIR' programme (hosted by Vic Galloway, another one of the early converts to the Degrassi cause). The Debut EP 'Terminal Ocean' produced by Michael Brennan (Super Furry Animals, Mogwai, The Beta Band, Elastica, Snow Patrol, And you will know us by the trail of dead) was later released on underground independent Scottish label SL Records. It reaped much critical acclaim and went some considerable way to breaking down the pigeon hole that many reviewers had struggled to place the band in. The next e.p. 'The Form' was also released, recorded again with Michael Brennan and Dub Panda, released on SL Records. Degrassi have played with bands such as: Snow Patrol, Faust, Wayne Kramer (MC5),Terra Diablo, Franz Ferdinand, Ballboy and to name but a few. Three T in the Park appearances have upped the ante in boosting the band's live profile that had already attained the eager attention and anticipation of many audiences and critics alike. This years T in the Park performance (2004) saw them close the tent and reap acclaim from many journalists including Dominic Diamond. After numerous tours with Cinerama (EX-Wedding Present Frontman David Gedge's current outfit) and the 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, the band had a swift line up re-shuffle and drafted-in ex-Idlewild Bassist Bob Fairfoull on additional guitar/bass duties. A recent tour of England has just been completed with the band playing alongside Ambulance Ltd and Bellx1 at Alan McGee's Death Disco (a recent campaigner for the band, writing favourable reviews and playing on his Radio One show along with Edith Bowman, Jo Whiley, Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe. The band headlined a prestigious gig at last years music industry conference MusicWorks in Glasgow as well as well as a highly successful slot on the MTV EMA showcase bill and also recent finalists of the Diesel awards alongside the Blueskins. 2004 has seen the band go from strength to strength touring with Sluts of Trust, Colour of Fire, Seafood and Aereogramme building a strong fan base across the UK and Europe. Degrassi were also nominated in the XFM awards for best live act of 2004. BBC Radio 1 Session in Scotland - Vic Galloway 'After a significant line-up change and directional move, Edinburgh's Degrassi are now better than ever & have completed a new recording with Michael Brennan (Mogwai, Super Furry Animals etc), Think of Idlewild's hooks, Mogwai's post-rock soundscapes and New Order's timing and synchronisation and you're approaching where the band are now coming from. Tremendous stuff.' Playlouder The Printworks, Manchester. (15/04/04) 'Down at the Printworks there is a storm brewing with Degrassi. The Edinburgh-based crew have been around a couple of years and have honed down their punk pop-fused, Art school rush of perfection... great hooks rise out of the intense riff action, all driven along with a high energy rush. Degrassi are definitely one of those bands that leaves you wondering why they are not much bigger'. John Robb.

digitalTRAFFIC
digitalTRAFFIC create heavy electronic music soundscapes with a futuristic / sci-fi / industrial sound. The instrumentation is entirely electronic and the albums feature a mix of dark ambient aggressive tracks to lighter more classical influenced tracks. digitalTRAFFIC albums range in styles, but feel very cohesive overall. The albums don't fall easily into any preconceived category, but should appeal to fans of heavy electronic / electronica, ambient / space music, orchestral electronica and experimental industrial soundscapes. digitalTRAFFICs sound takes the listener on a journey through heavy electronic inspired soundtracks to dark ambient soundscapes. There is a distinct live feel to the albums - clouds of sounds over heavy rhythms - unusual in construction and production but with a natural flow. Classic digitalTRAFFIC sound throughout creating a sound palate of discordant layers and rhythms with a sci-fi edge. Perfect for all MP3 players.

Dresden
Keepin' the rock 'n' roll fires burnin' is thirsty work, so in these times of great drought where even a drop of musical sewerage is fought over and lapped up as if it is the very nectar of life itself, it is from the heavens that we have been sent a life giving monsoon. And that, brothers and sisters is Dresden. Raining down on us like carpet-bombs, blowing away the stagnant present with a six string razored attack and panzer division drums, they wash the tuneless mud from our feet down the gutter of banality. Breast fed by the Stooges, nurtured by Sonic Youth and finally educated in the ways of this wicked but beautiful world by their fathers the MC5, Dresden don't look for answers, they look for questions. Can we forget the past? NO. Can we put up with the present? NO. Can we change the future? DEFINITELY! These four bad seeds do bear sweet fruits, so feast on some Dresden delights. Some may say tasteless, others say they leave a bad taste, but either way they can't stop popping another one in their mouth and having one opinion or another as they bite down hard. Me...... I say Dresden forever brothers 'n' sisters. And they always taste like rock 'n' roll to me.

Elephantine
Elephantine are a stoner metal band from Edinburgh comprising of Ally Leitch on vocals, Kieran Gallagher on guitar, Ross Martin on bass and Rikki Smith on drums. The band's juggernaught sound is like a mix between early Kyuss, The Stooges (and various miscellaneous punk groups) and Metallica. Songs vary from sludgy, low tuned beasts to up tempo stoner riffs. Loud as fuck drums, cheesy bass lines, crushing riffs and filthy, disgusting lyrics is what Elephantine are all about. Review Of Elephantine's Self released single "The Super Bad Ass Sweet Daddy Jones Experience" By Steve Belling From Virgin.net Only 2 tracks here, but there's plenty of earth moving de-tuned metal on display. It's hard-edged but accessible, and they deliver with a confidence that will do them no harm at all. Some of the riffs evoke classic era proto-HM given the way guitar, bass and drums evolve between shades of dark, and it would be interesting to hear these themes developed further. Ally supplies the vocal broadside with enough gritty character on tap to deliver at times, expletive-laden lyrics. Profane by nature, they might not be to everyone's taste, but there free to express their art, and it does stick a 'V' sign up the arse of the fake culture oozing from most music channel orifices. An enema for the music industry? Just stand well back.

Eoghan Colgan
Eoghan is a 27 year old doctor from Northern Ireland and one of the best kept secrets in British and Irish music. A guitarist since 15 he began songwriting and performing whilst at university in Belfast. His songs have strong, beautiful melodies with lyrics about love, life and friendship in a variety of musical styles. This musical mixture together with a powerful voice and natural stage presence is what has made him so appealing in many countries around the world. There is even a band in Fiji that cover two of his songs. Eoghan has been combining his medical career with his music for the past few years slowly building a large repertoire of original songs and honing his live performance. After two years working in Australia he moved to Glasgow in September ‘04 to concentrate on finally achieving his musical potential. In just a year he has found himself an exciting band and gone from open mic and coffee shop to showcases on BBC radio Scotland and headline performances at some of the biggest and best venues in Scotland including a sell out showcase at the recent Music Works festival. And the press is catching on too: “Perceptive and talented songwriter and performer in the best Irish tradition, who deserves to be heard by a much wider audience” (Jim McGhee, Daily Record). “At an exciting period for solo artists in Britain, Eoghan Colgan is emerging at the right time and with talent in abundance. A haunting voice with impressive songwriting skill, his acoustic melodies in songs such as Breathe and Believe Me send a shiver up your spine” (Breea McGuinness, Evening Times). It seems the secret might very soon be out!

FIVEPARKDRIVE
FiveParkDrive are an emergence of pure talent from the central belt of Scotland. The band kicked off when Liam Davies (Vox, Rhythm Guitar), who was originally studying music at Guildford Academy of Contemporary Music travelled north to continue his studies at Forth Valley College. It was here that he met Billy Kay (Bass Guitar, Backing Vox) and Steven Black (Lead Guitar, Backing Vox). The band was born! They found a drummer in Daniel Adam, one of Billy’s friends, who also went on to study Music at Forth Valley College. As the band progressed they felt that their sound would benefit from the introduction of keys and they were soon to be joined by the final member, Steven Honeyman, in June 2004. Since then, FiveParkDrive have played a vast selection of venues locally and extending to Glasgow, Edinburgh and even London and Southampton, obtaining a loyal army of fans. The band were recently finalists in the East meets West Battle of the Bands sponsored by Carling. Although pipped to the post for first place, the band were the real winners, managing to secure a gig supporting the Bluetones at the Liquidroom, Edinburgh on 8 March 2006. They also have upcoming gigs at Whistlebinkies, Edinburgh, and Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh. The band’s influences include the Beatles, the Doors, FUNKADE, Sly and the Family Stone, the Jam, and Bob Dylan. Although their music sounds like no other!

Flying Pixie Promotions & Music Managment
Welcome to Flying Pixie Promotions & Music Management. I was thrust into the music industry quite by accident while assisting some friends of mine to gain a gig North of the Border! Further gigs ensued, along with positive feedback and my enthusiasm for taking things further grew. I started working with the IVAN DREVER BAND early in 2009 and had a stint at managing the band through 2009/10 The content of my work involves booking and promoting gigs, press and media (radio etc) involvement, working with agencies and all the nitty gritty work which leaves the band free to do what they do best - write and perform their music to the world. I am the administration behind the talent I guess... I have also been involved with the national competition Live & Unsigned / Open Mic (see links page) since early 2009. I will endeavour to help where I can with bands/artistes not on my roster and if I am not in a position to fulfill a job, I will be honest and let you know, but I will always reply to enquiries.

Green Peppers
Green Peppers is the first solo project by Glaswegian guitar legend Jim McCulloch. Born in deepest Lanarkshire, he has been involved in the Glasgow music scene for over fifteen years. Playing lead guitar in the Soup Dragons, in the original line-up of the BMX Bandits and latterly joining old school chum Joe McAlinden in the much under-rated Superstar, Jim has had a varied and hugely enjoyable time playing music with people he respects as friends and musicians. "Green Peppers is really a vehicle for me to record and perform with friends...songs that I've kind of had swirling around in my head for a couple of years", says Jim. "There's no fixed line-up for the band, but hopefully I'll always find someone who enjoys playing beautiful music to join in with me", he adds with a smile. The first album, Joni's Garden, is released on the 15th November 2004 on Neon Tetra Records. Musicians involved this time around were Alan Hutchison, Jim Gash, Joe McAlinden, David Scott and Isobel Campbell. Welcome to Green Pepperland!

Gum
Based around the songwriting of Raymond Weir and the vocals of Leigh Myles, Gum released their debut album to favourable reviews in 2003. Featuring a clutch of great tunes and some spooky atmospherics, 'Low-flying Kites' brought Leigh’s mellifluous vocals and sultry looks to a wider audience. One reviewer described the band as sounding “like Hope Sandoval fronting OK Computer-era Radiohead”. Now signed to Serali Records, their next release, the mini-album 'Seven Feeble Alibis', sees the band move into more muscular territory. Featuring beefier epics like ‘Cross your heart, hope to die’ 'Beyond the Horizon’ and the incendiary ‘Falling through cracks’, the new album takes Gum to another level, with Leigh’s multi-layered backing vocals lifting the killer choruses to truly dizzying heights. 'Seven Feeble Alibis' is out now on Serali Records.

Hobotalk
Hobotalk are an eclectic four piece from Scotland playing the words and music of singer/songwriter Marc Pilley. Their sound has it's roots in folk, is heartfelt and at times haunting in it's melody. They've drawn musical comparisons with artists such as Tim Hardin, The Band, Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell In the winter of 1999, hobotalk signed to Virgin/Hut Records UK. On this label they recorded and released an E.P. (Pictures of Romance), and a full length album (Beauty in Madness) which were both widely received with much critical acclaim. Both of these releases were extensively toured throughout the UK and Europe. Including a nationwide tour of France, TV appearances in Ireland and the UK, a UK tour supporting labelmates Gomez, and dates in the summer festival series. In 2002, Hobotalk left hut records, and Marc Pilley took time out to travel and write for other artists, and gather material for a new album. In the last year, Hobotalk has played gigs with Don McLean, Burrito Deluxe, Jolie Holland and Bap Kennedy, as well as several acoustic and band performances of their own. They have written and recorded "Notes on Sunset", which will be released April 2005, and travelled to the USA to showcase at the prestigious South by Southwest Festival 2005 in Austin, Texas.

A four-piece Central Scotland based no-wave punk rock band have been writing and performing under the collective "Household" since August 2005. Bringing together sometimes-noisy-sometimes-sweet guitars, a tight & dynamic rhythm section, urgent vocals, analogue tape loops and lo-fi keyboards, Household have projected some of their new sounds to record. The demo recorded at home in the fall of 2005 is now available and comes with a free badge. Together from across Callander, Stirling, Falkirk and Glasgow, you can expect us to be playing any exciting local spots.

John B McKenna
A tad existential, but mostly universal/comprehensible. Folk, bigger than Lo-Fi. Currently radio friendly, although depending on how life treats me, it's subject to change. Written around the world, mostly in Scotland. Recorded in one bedroom/rarely in garage, but always on the same 8 track. 40GB of hard drive space never seemed so small, until recently when "DISKFULL" keeps popping up on lcd screen. Inspired by people who make themselves like King Creosote, by people who get signed up big and remain cool too. Musically influenced by Neil Young, Elliott Smith, King Creosote, Neutral Milk Hotel, Tom Waits, The Elected, and anyone who uses drum machines and synthesisers with organic instrumentation. I also believe Nemis is good, and I don't see a problem with the mailing list.

Juno
Enigmatic Glasgow/Fife/Tokyo six piece Juno! have been causing quite a stir on the Scottish scene since a national newspaper review at the turn of the year saw them being compared favourably to Primal Scream and current media darlings Kasabian. Certainly their use of live drums and bass, combined with drum machines, guitars, keyboards and percussion does come together to create a mighty cacophony, but one that’s held together by the blinding rhythmic grooves that underpin it all. Cracking debut EP ‘Wonderful’ was a well-received release that went some way to cementing a reputation the band hope to build on. They’re due to release follow-up EP ‘Higher’ this Spring. Recently Juno appeared on both Vic Galloway's Radio Scotland Air show and had a whole live set played on Radio Magnetic. Juno have also appeared on The Pin Up Clubs ‘best of ‘compilation and are due to appear on a local charity CD. Most recent claim to fame is supporting Data Panik at their Christmas gig at King Tut's.

Kat Flint
Young and lost, witty and wise, beauty with bite and a hangover - Kat Flint is one of the most engaging acoustic artists around, with a rapidly growing following, a distinctive way with words and a reputation for intimate live shows radiating her peculiar blend of energy, sarcasm and indie-folk charm. Her eloquent tales of junkyard prostitutes, the end of the world and life in the fearsome crowd have won many admirers, and debut release 'The Secret Boy's Club' is a love letter to the children we were, the adults we become and the places we make for ourselves in the world. Recorded in a living room on a shoestring, with an ear for a good tune, a mischievous sense of fun and an ever-expanding arsenal of playschool instruments (and cardboard boxes), it's a slice of the good, old-fashioned lyrical wrapped in the home-made whimsical.

Kat is the winner of the inaugral New Lyric Award, presented by Ray Davies and Channel 4, and spent March touring with Rough Trade's folk darling Cara Dillon, playing 16 dates across the UK as chief tour support, having been hand-picked by Cara and Rough Trade despite being unsigned and unheard-of.

Born in Barbados, raised in Aberdeen and coming of age in Edinburgh, she now splits her time between London and Glasgow. She quite likes trains, which is a good thing really...

Keser
Band Bio - Keser is a Scottish post rock electronica duo comprising of David Reid (bass) and Kevan Whitley (guitar). Their sound has its roots in the Glasgow underground guitar music scene of the late 90's where they studied for 4 years and witnessed transcendental bands such as 'Aereogramme', 'Mogwai' and 'Arab Strap' first hand. Fusing the guitar style of that lauded era with synthesised beats has resulted in a new progressive form of guitar-based seraphic electronica. Ambient and ethereal sounds elevate subtly, building up into crushing waves and returning back again. The vaporous instrumentals and melodic chimings are only anchored by the electro beats and unconditional ambience throughout. This musical and life metaphorical mentality is evident on every track. Their debut album 'Esoteric Escape' has captured both their live feel and refined recordings into 12 tracks and diverges into the realms of post rock melodic electonica, sounds which seem to aptly soundtrack a person's journey.. Be it through life or simply on a bus trip.. 6 billion people can't be wrong. -Keser are releasing their first studio album entitled 'Esoteric Escape', out on Alex Tronic Records on August 28th, 2006. www.alextronicrecords.co.uk

Kid Canaveral
Kid Canaveral started in St Andrews, Fife in very late 2002 and properly came together the following spring. After a number of open stage nights, the band began to play proper gigs and in the 2 and a bit years since they formed they have released two EPs, gained national radio airplay, and supported the likes of The Fence Collective, Joy Zipper, KT Tunstall and even Tiffany... They sound like a young REM having tea with the Pixies, with Bono locked outside and shouting to get in. They are "destined for beyond the indie disco and pub scene". Which is nice. Kid Canaveral are David MacGregor (Vox & Guitar), Kate Lazda (Vox & Guitar), Rose McConnachie (Bass & Vox), Dan Sheehy (Drums). They are now based in and around St Andrews and Edinburgh. Kodiak
Kodiak is not an island, or a bear. Kodiak is a four-piece band, Gianni Lawson, Steve Fionda, David Quinn and Rick Smith, hailing from Glasgow, Scotland.

The band formed mid-2004, via ways and means which are far too complicated to go into here. Let's just say it was more of a collision than a merge.

Kodiak have managed to incorporate a refreshingly diverse range of influences into their own unique brand of rock-a-pop-a-funk-a-soul. Crossing genres like freeways, you may just find a jazz beat or a reggae riff behind that soaring chorus.

Hooky melodies blend into bombastic guitars over funky basslines and driving beats, to create a gloriously hummable and memorable noise.

It will make sense. Sense like nothing else you have heard.

Gianni Lawson writes, sings, and grooves, keeping his stage presence under lock and key until the gig for fear of reprisals.

Steve Fionda writes, plays guitar, sings backing vocals, and rocks, usually enough to wake your neighbours. That's right - your neighbours.

David Quinn writes, plays bass, sings backing, and has an arse like a metronome no man could manufacture.

Rick Smith writes, drums, and can be found in that funky little pocket between tight and solid.

There's a real spark to Kodiak that you have to hear for yourself - a fusion of influences from each band member create a sound that is as unique as it is accessible. There is no point in listing influences, unless you can imagine Tool, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Bono starting up a band in your garage. So we won't.

Kodiak is not an island, or a bear.

Don't take our word for it - visit our forum to hear what's being said, download our latest e.p. and live tracks, and read what the music press are already saying about Kodiak.

Kordoba
Kordoba is an alternative indie rock band from Aberdeen, Scotland. We were formed in November of 2004, from a mutual desire to simultaneously exercise and harness the cathartic power of rock music. We preach anger, not angst, combining railing lyrics and rattling guitars with a rich sense of the supernatural and the mysteries of our world. Our work is in many ways a reflection of the ethos of bitter cynicism which is our modern Scottish heritage. The cynicism comes in many flavours as our style is varied and in places complex. We also believe there is more to life than this. We believe in bringing down the false positivism and legalistic morality which misrepresents the alternative to our modern day nihilism. We believe in an objective, foundational real love, freedom, purpose, God, from which all that is beautiful flows. But Kordoba is about the human condition. We observe and construe humanity. We hope you identify with our work. whatever the state of mind, whatever the song. The self-loathing and the selfishness, the grey-tinged euphoria and the loneliness, the sin... and the longing for fulfilment. Kordoba. Because your emptiness needs to be defined. And re-defined.

KT Tunstall
KT Tunstall is a sparkling new songwriter with Chinese blood, a Scottish heart, great legwarmers and a cool name - "well, it's got a bit more attitude than Kate which just says farmer's daughter to me," she laughs. KT celebrates classic singer-songwriting in the tradition of Rikki Lee Jones, Carol King and Fleetwood Mac with an articulate, accessible, immediate brew of rootsy sass, wistful quandary and after-hours atmosphere. The latest in a line of outstanding contemporary Scottish songwriters including Texas, Fran Healy, Teenage Fanclub and The Beta Band, KT's unique perspective offers a rare emotionally connecting intensity through it's gripping lyrical bite and heartfelt melody. She grew up in the university town of St Andrew's ("beautiful but sheltered, a little bubble"), always knowing she had been adopted at birth. "I grew up knowing I could have had a million different lives. It makes your life mysterious and your imagination go wild." Her debut album 'Eye To The Telescope' is the creative consequence of that inquiring imagination. "My songs examine and explore little specific emotions or situations or stories," she explains. "They're kitchen table songs, like a conversation between me and one other person. It's almost like an alien has been sent to get emotional samples from human beings and put it all together on a record." KT spent her childhood up hills and under canvas with her outward-bound parents. Music was never really part of the equation until her older brother discovered the joys of hair metal. "I would sit outside his room and record his music through his door." Her first album was the Never-ending Story soundtrack, but her favourite, reassuringly, is David Bowie's 'Hunky Dory'. "Its sound really touched my love for songwriting and spacey stuff," she says. "I was really into sci-fi books as a kid. My dad is a physicist and he used to take my brothers and I into his lab when we were little. We played games with liquid nitrogen and Van de Graaff generators. He had the keys to the observatory at St Andrew's University and he'd get us up in the middle of the night to show us Halley's Comet. That's partly why the album is called 'Eye To The Telescope.'" The young active KT took up piano, then flute and gradually her singing voice developed its earthy individuality, "I'm pretty certain that I learned how to sing because someone gave me an Ella Fitzgerald tape - she was my singing teacher." By her mid-teens, KT had started writing her own songs, "but I was just coming out with this schmaltzy love nonsense. It was a complete vomit of puppy love. But I thought I was rocking." At 16, she took up the guitar, teaching herself from a busker's book. Schmaltz was junked; a musical epiphany ensued. Hungry for experiences and independence, she gained a scholarship to Kent School in Connecticutt, New England and absorbed gigs by The Grateful Dead and 10,000 Maniacs. She also formed her first band, The Happy Campers, and played a host of informal gigs. "By the second week of playing an open mic slot I was their 'special guest from Scotland!'," she recalls. Next stop on her personal odyssey was a music course at Royal Holloway College, where she tried and failed to form another band. "I managed to win Battle Of The Bands with one mandolin player! It was me and eleven goth bands and I won." After vanquishing the goths, KT returned to St Andrews and became immersed in the grassroots scene which spawned The Beta Band and the Fence Collective, forming a group with Fence's Pip Dylan and honing her tastes with an ambrosial diet of James Brown, Lou Reed, Billie Holliday, Johnny Cash and PJ Harvey. A few years and bands later, it was crunch time for Tunstall. She hit London again where, finally, things started to fall into place. Working relationships were forged, deals were secured. She began writing projects with Swedish songwriter/producer Martin Terefe and London-based Orcadian Jimmy Hogarth and London's Tommy D. With over a hundred songs in her pocket, set to work on her debut album with her new band and legendary U2/New Order/Happy Mondays producer Steve Osborne at the helm. "Steve was producer and engineer - he did everything. He even invited me to stay with him and his family so we could work longer. We recorded the album in this gnarly little studio in the woods in Wiltshire. It was this disabled guy's house. The vocal booth was the wheelchair ramp between his bedroom and the control room. So you could either sing going downhill or uphill. It was perfect, so raw. He's got this little shack in the garden where all the local bands rehearse. It was like Deliverance." Minus the psychopathic locals, presumably. And no duelling banjos either. "I didn't want to take too much equipment into the studio because it's when you have to be inventive that you get interesting music. Tom Waits said if you want something to sound like a cardboard box being hit with a boot, then hit a cardboard box with a boot." This lo-fi, visceral, boot-wielding approach was inspired by KT's recent conversion to the hiss and crackle of early blues. "On the whole, I'm a positive, skippity-la-la person but I love the dark side of music and I will always want to explore that. It's a positive-sounding album but there's stuff underneath for sure." Since completing 'Eye To The Telescope', life has been a blur of gigs, first as support to Joss Stone, then a tour of Europe, singing with 'klezmer hip-hop' band Oi Va Voi, who ignited the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury. "It was blazing sunshine and I went on in a turquoise neck muff, glamorous dress and muddy boots and just had the best gig, really emotional. I've had emails from people saying that they cried. They promised it wasn't the drugs." Now KT is raring to channel all her infectious energies into her own music. "I'm not exactly sure what has driven me so hard," she says. "I've never questioned it. I've never had a back-up plan. I was never going to do anything else."

Lexxi
Lexxi, named after a pornstar, sounding like the lovechild conceived after a night of passion involving Courtney Love, Foo Fighters, Pixies, Garbage and Metallica, began life at 4am after Louise and Andy took a ride in a shopping trolley one very long night in Glasgow. Craig and Fraser arrived on the scene in more conventional ways shortly afterwards. Since then Lexxi have been putting lust back into distortion with their energetic and captivating live shows that have seen them play a host of venues, both at home and abroad (including Glasgow Carling Academy, Liverpool Barfly, London’s LA2, and Berlin’s Knaack Club), win second place in the Emergenza world final, and support familiar names such as soundtrack of our lives, jason mraz and INME. Audiences are mesmerised by Louise’s every word be it eloquently sexual or heartbreakingly fragile, as her powerful vocals emerge from a backdrop of dirty rock n roll riffs and a pumping rhythm section. Since producing an early demo with Mark Freegard (best known for his work on the Breeders 'Last Splash') Lexxi have continued to develop their unique style of filthy rock in their own studio, deep in the heart of Glasgow's West End. With three European tours in 2005, Lexxi are comfortably in their stride, with every new song delivering something unique but retaining that Lexxi sound. With festival dates booked across Europe this summer, and numerous gigs on home soil, the future looks bright for this young band. Lexxi promise to leave you breathless, sweating and aching for more…

Miyagi
Miyagi formed in 2002 bringing together funk/rock drums, country bass, surf guitar, freeform jazz sax and untamed djembe rhythms in one unit. There are 5 songwriters, 6 unique voices and in the spirit of The Band and Crosby, Stills and Nash, Miyagi have no one frontman. Choosing instead to seek for a true band sound, using which ever voice is best suited to any particular song, and often using all 6 in sprawling harmonies. Oh, and they want to make you dance, or at least move wildly. Check out some of their tunes at www.myspace.com/miyagimusic

Mr Greenfinger
In these dark days of boy-bands, pop 'idols' and manufactured shite, is the world truly ready for a band who really are only here to entertain ? Commanding the stage like a funked-up AC/DC, Mr Greenfinger will rock you and roll you, they will cause you to gyrate wildy, and they will make you smile.....yes, and maybe even HAVE A GOOD TIME ! Full on party music is what you get with Mr G. No holds barred, kick-ass rock'n'roll, with a healthy nod to the ska and reggae they love so much, all combined with a large dose of ranting Scotsman, not seen since the likes of the Sensational Alex Harvey himself. They only have one official release to date, a four track ep entitled "This Time Next Year" which came out in December 2002 on their own Slinky G label. However they are hoping to record their first album very soon (funds permitting as always !)

Mr. Andy Hill
On downtime from his job as singer/guitarist/noisemonger for Edinburgh rock band The Dreamt, (along with other projects) Andy solo takes a quieter (even) more introverted approach. His primary influences are Morrissey/The Smiths and Arab Strap, with such diverse acts as Radiohead and The Streets even finding their way to the mix (he doesn't try to rap though, so don't worry). At the moment, Andy only performs solo at 'open mic' nights, and you can find him in the basement of the Tron most Sunday nights, getting in his tuppence worth for 15 minutes. However, he will probably be appearing about the fair city of Edinburgh in a more official capacity, hopefully, in the not-so-distant future.

NOM
FAST FORWARD Having spent time touring and working with sundry people from Teenage Fanclub to Rod Stewart, Joe wanted something new. He started a club called Phat Dat in a tropical glasshouse at which Sace was the resident DJ, playing anything from Pink Floyd to Redman. They had a laugh. Their friendship grew strong. Naturally, they began working together. The time was magical. The journey was effortless. The result? A song called Out Of My Hands. This was just the beginning. >PLAY The First NOM album was recorded and produced at home in Glasgow by NOM and mixed at Soho Studios in London by Goetz B. (Faithless, Dido, Pet Shop Boys, Paul Weller). The album has already received a Germany only release through the YoMama Recording Company has a limited release in Scotland from now through Monorail and Salvation Sounds in Glasgow and also from the bands website, NOMMUSIC.COM.

One Hundred Owls
Derived from an incessant need to write alone and without chatter, the goal of One Hundred Owls is to hash out whatever may come, accept all mistakes and to revert back to the Roman-Greco ideology of divine spirits leading the artist like vessels, effectively removing the ego.

Referred to as Japanese obstructionist pop, OHO is best described as a cantankerous poodle making sweet, sweet love to Metric's second album whilst listening to the muses of Hesse and under the influence of benzodiazepine.

Page 6
Page 6 like to keep it simple. Back in 2003, the four guys got together and started jamming out some songs. Over the next couple of years it has been a process of finding "the sound", they always knew it would be different to your run of the mill bands around but this was and is one of their strengths. Along the way, they have done the customary gigs all around the country to earn their badges, attracting a wide range of loyal fans on a national level. Other achievements include national airplay on many a radio station as well as regular road shows with Tay FM and a live session for Northsound Radio. The height of the bands success came in the summer of 2004 when they reached the Scottish Final of the Sony World Wide Battle of the Bands competition. The band managed to beat hundreds of other bands to be in the final 12 and rewarded with a show at the Carling Academy in Glasgow to a full house, with base player Graham winning the prize for best base player in the competition. After a few offers of management, the band took on Cara Anderson, who had experience working with a variety of high profile bands, including Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro, Terra Diablo and The Cinematics. Over the past 6 months, the band took some time to write new songs, define the image and ultimately present a fresh new package to take the industry by storm! Since returning the band have played a handful of gigs but there is a real buzz, with legions of new fans turning up to the shows, it is an exciting time ahead. They have recently recorded their new EP - due for release in July - with Marcus from Divingbell Studios in Glasgow and are already receiving interest from a number of labels. Page 6 can be summed up by the live performance. Anyone who has seen them will know what I mean, any who hasn't should get down to see them where you can and bounce away! As a result of a gig at the Carling Academy on Sunday 3rd July, the boys have secured a distribution deal with FOPP records and received more money for recording and artwork for the EP.

Peter Coia

Peter Coia - Songwriter, Composer and Musician.

Born - Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland on October 4th 1952.

After leaving school in 1967, he worked as an apprentice engineer during the day and played guitar in local bars and clubs in the evenings. From his teens to his early twenties he performed solo and in a variety of bands playing styles ranging from Country Western & Folk to Pop. He also learned to play bass guitar, keyboard, classical guitar and began writing and recording his own music, lyrics and poems.

Peter is now an accomplished musician, composer and songwriter, who writes and produces a mixed variety of material under his own label ‘Peter Coia Music’. Although his singing capabilities leaves a lot to be desired (and he is the first person to admit this), the quality and variety of his compositions and his versatility as a musician are exceptional.
Most of his recordings are made in the studio where he plays many of the instruments himself. Peter Coia now lives in Stirling, Scotland and as well as producing music for ‘Peter Coia Music’, he is the managing editor of 'The Scottish Post'.

There were three albums and two singles released by Peter Coia in 2008 for digital download.

Red Amp
Starting in 2004 at NGC (North Glasgow College) the band red amp was formed. Consisting then of 4 members Adele - Drums, Mark - Guitar, Micheal - Bass and Jon - Guitar and Vocals. Through playing small gigs in Glasgow they slowly started to build a small fan base. By mid 2005 the band had now become popular in the city with collection of catchy songs this also saw them switching to a three piece for a much tighter sound. By the end of 2005 and start of 2006 came one of the bands biggest triumps in finishing first in the qualifying rounds and semi final's to reach the finals of Fury Murry's King of the bands in glasgow. Recently there has been a transformation in the Red Amp set up, With Jon McElroy still performing as an accoustic solo artist he put together a set for recording at Clyde Music for the Red Amp songs with help from Darren Findlay on drums and Andrew Chisholm on bass and revive the Red Amp dream. Redbricktent
George Bowie - Clyde 1- "There been a lot of great pop bands coming out of Scotland over the years but good Scottish rock bands have been too few and far between. However that's about to change with this very impressive debut from Scots rockers Redbricktent. The tracks are big and brash with balls but somehow remain melodic while still sounding as full on as can be. An impressive debut that you just know is going to sound even better on the live stage. Roll on the next gig." Martin Bates - Beat 106- "Lots of bands try the BIG RAWK thing and fail. Redbricktent manage to pull it off - frequently!" Jim Gellatly - Beat 106- "Great melodic pop rock, but with enough of an edge to make them stand out".

SAZ
SAZ are an original music, female fronted, heavy metal (old skool style), kick ass, Scottish rock band. We have been gigging around Scotland for seven years and loving every minute. The concept of SAZ was born in 1977 with the advent of Punk Rock and became more fully formed during those heady days of the "new wave of british heavy metal". A gigging version of the band was formed in 1998 and had a distinctly rock/pop sound, which, with time, and band member changes, evolved into today's "hard hitting" rock sound with powerful melodic vocals. www.myspace.com/sazrock666

Seventh Redmoon
Seventh Redmoon, based in glasgow, was created by producer/songwriter Antony Vitrano, to explore various avenues in the music spectrum. Currently working with lead vocalist Elle Watson, the productions have taken on a more electronic vibe, capitalizing on what todays, and yesteryears technology can provide. They have been working on a new set over the last few months, and are about to start performing it live, hoping to win over some new support. The new set will be yet another eclectic mix, including tracks that could easily fit into a commercial chart, to the more deeper electronic vibes, that still retain their sonic warmth. Shadowchylde
Shadowchylde has been an evolving band and has been in existence for going on 8 years. The original lineup consisted of Dave Pallister (Guitar and vocals), Brian Vargas (Bass and vocals), and Dave Biddle (Drums). At it's inception, Shadowchylde was a cover band playing songs by Creed, Metallica, Kiss, James Gang, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their first gig was playing open mic nights at a bar in Glen Burnie Maryland called Crossroads where they eventually became a staple act and allowed other musicians to get up and jam with them on a wide variety of songs. After an unfortunate incident that saw Dave Biddle depart the band, Dave and Brian recorded a 5 song EP of all original material called "Mixed Emotions" and sent it off to Matt Davis of 98 Rock in Baltimore. Matt decided it was good enough to play on his local artist show called "Noise In The Basement" where he played the song "Suffer". After they recorded "Mixed Emotions", Dave and Brian had an amicable parting of the ways and Dave moved to Westminster, Maryland where he continued writing music and eventually had enough to record his first full length album called "The Sleeping Chylde Awakes". Since he had no idea how to promote it at first, it simply got passed around to some of his friends, one of whom suggested he put it up on the Internet and go play it on Paltalk. He was a bit leary about having it on the 'net but he did take his friend's advice and started going into music rooms on Paltalk where he was "discovered" by a DJ for Kansas City Internet Audio called "The Voice". He recorded a second album during his tenure as the "first New Artist on KCIA" called "The Chylde Discovers Love". Dave later discovered that KCIA didn't have all their ducks in a row but he was very happy when they brought someone new on as the "New Artist Director". Her name was Stormy Nyght and it took her even less time to realize how messed up KCIA was so she took all the new artists, including Shadowchylde, and started her own station called "The Spotlight". During his tenure as a Featured Artist on "The Spotlight", Dave met an extraordinary bassist named Will and Will's friend, Drummerboy Steve with whom he re-formed Shadowchylde. They were well suited musically and they played one gig opening for Lancaster-based Blue Corduroy where they blew the headliners off the stage. Unfortunately, Will and Steve had little faith in their abilities so the band broke up once again. Determined not to give up, Dave went on to record an album of cover tunes called "Gotcha Covered!!!" and also "Living With The Killer's Name", a double CD of covers called "Tributes" and his latest original CD entitled "Judgement Day", all of which are available for sale on his website. At present, Dave has relocated to Glasgow, Scotland and is seeking new musicians to fill out the lineup...

Shutter where formed one late night in the middle of nowhere and are made up of guitarists Pete Macdonald & Matt Campbell with brothers William & James Roberts on drums and bass. The outfit take their music in a vastly different direction to any band in the highland area. Their main influences are each other but they listen to lots of music styles and a wide range of artists such as Aberfeldy, Martyn Bennett, The Herbaliser & Mastodon. Such a broad taste in music enables the band to constantly have a stream of new material flowing. Shutter have had a successful start to 2005 after exploding onto the Edinburgh scene then returning to their home town of Inverness for a jam packed gig at Mad Hatters in February. They have also supported top underground bands such as The Tigerbombs & Candy Sniper.

"Small Enclosed Area offer straight-to-the-point, aurally pleasing rock songs but they cram in the dynamic elements of bands like Tool, Pearl Jam, Deftones and Sense Field" INDIGO FLOW

"Crunchy and Melodic emocore, top quality for those that love and remember bands such as Sense Field and Far". COLLECTIVE ZINE

"Small Enclosed Area are responsible for a passionately articulate racket in their own right" WHISPERING AND HOLLERIN'

"Not only are Small Enclosed Area good musicians, they have an inventive and original approach to songwriting, there is a dark, claustrophobic intensity to their music which twists and turns through a knotwork of influences" NORTHERN SCOT

The name Small Enclosed Area was chosen due to the feeling of entrapment one feels from living in a wee town in Scotland, isolated from the rest of the world.
They began playing music together influenced by a wide range bands from the "outside world" such as Tool, Far, Mogwai, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Thursday, Hundred Reasons, Tori Amos, Symposium, & Idlewild.

Sons and Daughters
Sons and Daughters are: Adele Bethel - Vocals, guitar, piano David Gow - Drums, Percussion Ailidh Lennon - Bass, mandolin, piano Scott Paterson - Vocals, guitar adele was on tour with arab strap‚ when she mentioned to david that she'd an idea for a band called sons and daughters‚ and he said i'll do it‚ and at the same time adele's friend ailidh was turning her dainty hand to any instrument she could pick up so they started recording onto 4 tracks but there was no band yet until adele meets scott right and he's got a guitar and he's an act called march of dimes‚ which is good and soon they all start hanging out and chewing an idea called sons and daughters‚ and before long a practice was booked and it wasn't rubbish then after hot-housing the tunes for a few months a band happened and they got a gig in the thirteenth note in glasgow using guitars mandolins pianos drums bass and tambourines. then what happened was loads of gigs with good bands and at the same time this new yorker called ben goldberg wanted to put out a record of some tunes on his ba da bing label after hearing some of the songs on a tape so the band got some money together and paid andy miller to do a good job on it in chem 19 which he did and it's called love the cup featuring seven tunes and it's twenty five minutes long. the band are currently making new tunes to play at gigs and to record and usually say yes so just ask speaking of which adele and ailidh would like new amps also scott would like a shiny new metal necked guitar and david would like some wires that don't explode every second gig. StrangeFeelings
With a lead vocalist who has a hint of Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon about his voice and songs which could have been but were never written by Syd Barrett from the Pink Floyd. This is like nothing around at the moment. It’s human music about everyday things. The band are: Iain Stewart: Vocals/Guitar, Jamie Bell: All Electric Guitars, Bryan Peterson: Bass, John Ballie: All Drums/Percussion, Backing Vocals: Nicola Leighton. Everyone involved in the group met whilst studying a BA (Hons) degree in Commercial Music. Lead singer/songwriter, Iain Stewart previously played as a keyboard player with bands such as; Mull Historical Society and Mercedes (Supporting Coldplay on tour - 1999). Some of the recorded work he has done includes having played on the M.H.S`s gold selling debut album "Loss" as well as their first two singles. To date, StrangeFeelings have performed around a dozen gigs, 3 of which were the Burns festival two years running (2004/05) and Edinburgh's Liquid rooms at the T Break competition (2004). Summer of Mars
Formerly Vera Cruise Vera Cruise's tenure as one of Glasgow's most incendiary acts may have been short lived but in the time they were on the scene they earned a reputation as one of the best bands around. Touring with Teenage Fanclub, Evan Dando and Eugene Kelly established them as a stunning live act while their one and only album 'Come Alone And Fall Apart' received praise from Radio 1's Evening Session and from all quarters of the music press. Newly reborn as SUMMER OF MARS, the band is based around original VC members - Canadian ex-pat vocalist/ guitarist Paul Smith, and multi-instrumentalist Dave McGowan. The band is augmented by various different guest musicians, including bass player Michael Kasparis of V-Twin (the subject of Franz Ferdinand's hit single 'Michael'). The band recorded at Black Box studios in France with Craig Ward of dEUS at the production helm, and the album blends bone-shaking Glaswegian rock 'n' roll with a series of lo-fi melodic grooves to astounding effect. 'GLACIERS' is an album of strong lyrical themes; says Smith of the record: 'I hope part of what we have that sets us apart is coherent, literate words. There are images to do with war on the album, but I wasn't trying to be political; I was just trying to write from someone else's perspective. Like the Boss would. The song 'Glaciers' is from someone else's perspective too, because obviously I don't have a wife, nor a child. There are a few songs that are just about taking drugs and fucking up. 'The Comfort Of Your Love' is about a deaf and mute prostitute who used to hang out in the bar because she felt safe there. Then she got murdered. I used to call her social worker for her' No wonder then that 'GLACIERS' is such a haunting, beautiful and melancholic record, at times recalling Sparklehorse and Granddaddy, yet shot through with more visceral elements: Nirvana, 'Mary Queen Of Scots' era Eugenius, and Lemonheads all come to mind. Any doubts that the band would be unable to match the awesome live performances of Vera Cruise were cast aside when the band made their live debut at a home town show at the end of last year supporting dEUS. It was a jaw-dropping display of energy that showcased an unusual combination of Nirvana and The Band that once again established Smith and McGowan as masters of their craft. Both Smith & McGowan are familiar faces in Glasgow, the latter having worked with the likes of Teenage Fanclub, Evan Dando, Arab Strap and Future Pilot AKA, the former having a big involvement in the scene that has burgeoned around the Mono and Stereo venues. Together the pair also back Eugene Kelly on bass & keys respectively, both switching over to guitars for Summer Of Mars duties.

Tender Mercies
"The seeds were sown when, late in the winter of 2004, Ross John Clark was unwittingly (but somewhat fortuitously) drunkenly rude to a couple of Swedish gentlemen in the heart of Glasgow's west end. As it happened, one Swede was part of the duo at the helm of Swedish indie label Evergreen Terrace, and rather than dwelling on the unfortunate incident with the rudeness, he decided to come forth with the offer of a modest record deal. The problem to arise was that there was no band as such, no name, nothing! Nothing that is but a collection of freshly penned songs and the desire to get them out into the world. Early 2005 saw the recording of a debut EP ("Stories", soon to be released on Evergreen Terrace in Sweden and the UK), and the gradual formation of a band as members were brought in and out to add to the recordings, with Tender Mercies now boasting 6 full members (James Edwin, Billy Docherty, Julie anne McCambridge, Seamus O'Donnell, Alastair Mitchell and, well, Ross)." The debut EP is scheduled for imminent release in Sweden, availiable shortly after in the UK, and through www.evergreenterrace.se

The 11th Hour
The 11th Hour formed in mid 2005 and are based in the industrial wastelands of Glasgow. The main goal of the band is to create electronic art rock where the listener is approached with ideas and situations rather than bombarded with mindless pop sentimentality parading as art. With a substantial songbook and exposure to many different styles of music, the members of The 11th Hour believe they are offering something different. Basing their style and content on the darker aspects of the human condition The 11th Hour are a breed apart from the majority of bands currently whoring their wares. It may be brash, sleazy and morally questionable but its honest and truthful.

The Beggars Lake
The autumn of 2003 saw the formation of the Beggar's Lake and from the outset the band aspired to draw on their eclectic range of musical influences. The melting pot this produced mixes a number of musical styles - from rock n' roll to pop and from country to blues. Whether it's acoustic or full on rock and roll, the band have an edgy, almost reckless sound. Strong melodies, powerful rhythms and strong social commentary are characteristics of The Beggars Lake unique sound. The Beggars Lake have proved to be a formidable live act with various headline shows throughout Scotland and some impressive supports to a diverse range of acts including Black, Martin Stephenson of The Daintees, The Grim Northern Social and recently supported Nick Armstrong and The Thieves at King Tuts. In the short time the band have been together, they have built up a strong and loyal following. This year, the band entered the studio to record their debut demo EP entitled 'Sleeping Dogs' and their reputation for exciting and energetic live performances has ensured that The Beggars Lake are in high demand. The band plans to release their debut EP sometime in late 2005 early 2006 with lead track Suzie the perfect showcase of the bands refreshing sound. Discover The Beggars Lake for yourself and remember ‘It’s not a real lake’.

The Blues Buddahs
We are, always have been, and always will be...The Fabulous Blues Buddahs! One of Glasgow's longest running blues bands, the Buddahs formed in 1999 and have played all over Scotland including several festival appearances. The band is a four piece, electric, passion filled psychedelic blues explosion: think Peter Green, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayalls Bluesbreakers, Paul Butterfield circa East West, Ray Charles, Rory Gallagher etc etc. "Singer Dennis Smalley's voice totally won me over...he must be the best kept secret in Scottish blues" (Blues Matters! Iss 26 Jan06). "With the Buddahs I've never seen the same show twice...not many singers can do justice to Cream songs...they have good fun when playing but still take the music seriously...expect the unexpected!" (Scots Blues News, Oct 2004) "The Blues Buddahs are not your average blues band...confines of cliché blues predictability is thrown out of the window as they span from psychedelic rock to soul and jazz the guitarist is impeccably quick and he sounds like a modern day Jimi Hendrix or Dave Gilmour. They have a natural ability for involving the whole audience in their performance and making everyone feel at home. Front man Dennis kept the crowd amused with his on stage banter and got everyone singing and dancing along to their mix of covers and original material." (www.icscotland.icnetwork.com) "The Buddahs hit the spot!...Dennis Smalley's vocal phrasing is pure Jack Bruce...the quality of the recording makes a mockery of bigger bands...guitarist Horoscope and bassist Whitelaw both shine" (Blues Matters! Issue 24 May 2005) Check our website below or www.myspace.com/thebluesbuddahs for more fun and bluesy amusement!

The Cellers
Currently meandering through Scotland with a compelling live set rooted on spiraling harmonies and bohemian swagger The Cellers are finely poised to launch a crusade to higher climbs. Elements of The Coral's quirkiness, The LA’s melodies and the gravitas songwriting of Crosby Stills Nash and Young have all been cited by keen eared listeners from their acclaimed debut EP Thai Whiskey Tears. With an ensemble of beautifully crafted songs ranging from haunting tales of small town desolation to calamitous denials of stalked desire, all delivered with charismatic verve, the band are carving a reputation as one of Scotland's finest live acts.

The Commercials
The Commercials are a five piece alternative rock band based in Glasgow. They have been well established in Glasgow over the past few years. They describe their sound as a mishmash of influences with an emphasis on Catchy tunes. They have released an ep and mini album all with widespread airplay and are currently recording a new ep with producer Kevin Burleigh who has worked with The Supernaturals, Simple minds and John McLaughlin. They have played gigs throughout the UK and supported touring and chart acts e.g. Ian Brown in Nov. 2004. The boys are building a following locally and are noted for their unique, animated performances. Their influences include Captain Beefhart, Talking Heads and The Beta Band, although they have a unique image and sound all of their own.

The Conviction
Genre: Murder Mystery Punk

Ali Stalker - Rhythm Guitar
Nicky Blair - Drums
Stuart Baillie - Vocals
Colin O'Neill - Bass Guitar
Brandon Walker - Lead Guitar

The Conviction arrested musical decline on a snowy night early in 2005 and within six months manifested into the current power-house line up steadily building up a fiercely loyal and dedicated fan base. Trademark blistering guitars, fat-head bass notes and bullish drum licks envelop soaring dual vocals thus perfectly articulating the expertly crafted, melodious carnage that is murder mystery punk. Live the band have few peers and rarely do they play a set without at least two encores to appease the fervent masses.

The Dead Beat Club
Formed in Edinburgh in early 2004, the Dead Beat Club is a six-piece, musical collective based around the songwriting of Andy Tucker. A 5 star review in the Edinburgh Guide described them as follows: “Think of Glen Frey’s unique vocal arrangements for the Eagles, think Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac brought up to date with an REM, feel – guitars, piano, layered vocals and big, big self-penned melodies. Unmissable”

The Dreamt are Andrew Hill (vocals/guitar/keyboard) Alasdair Macinnes (bass/vocals), Stefan Huth (guitar)and, most recently, Maitiu Corbett (drums/vocals/whatever he can get his hands on). Formed in late 2004, after much delay, they played their eagerly anticipated debut gig, supporting Callel in March 2005. 2005 also saw an acoustic gig (The Dreamt appearing only as a duo that evening) at Nektar, as well as a charity gig at Theatre Workshop, the debut of their new line-up. In addition the band made their first foray into a professional studio, recording what might one day be called 'The Dreamt E.P.'. They intend to continue gigging into 2006 and beyond and, though they are not keen to pigeonhole themselves, they are happy to confirm that they do like the 'rock' music.

The Dykeenies
The Dykeenies. The Dykeenies are a new Progressive Punk, Art Rock creation formed and based in Glasgow. With influences ranging from, Blur & early Stone Roses to Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party, The Dykeenies sound is unique and fresh whilst not afraid to expose its popular music origins. With comparisons to late seventies punk with a lining of all that is modern it’s no wonder that The Dykeenies are causing such a stir.

The Eisenhowers
The Eisenhowers is not so much a band, more a loose collection of people making a noise with musical instruments. The music they play is an eclectic and adult-oriented mix, inspired by the likes of Aimee Mann, The Beach Boys, Elvis Costello, Jellyfish and XTC. Songwriter Raymond has built up a huge backlog of material and the debut album 'Almost half-undressed' is, in effect, a compilation drawn from several abandoned album projects launched earlier in the century, each one sinking in the cruel sea of abandoned hopes. It features 12 literate, punchy and thoughtful songs about sex, celebrity, love, money, parenthood and serial killers. All members of The Eisenhowers collective are politically aware and very much focused on the important issues of the day. They guarantee that at least 20% of the proceeds from album sales will be used to buy girlie mags and alcohol. 'Almost half-undressed' is out now on Serali Records.

The Fortunate Sons
The Fortunate Sons are dragging music from the manicured hands of fashion back to the swamp. Hailing from the southern suburbs of Glasgow, The Fortunate Sons have been in their current line up for little over a year. Now in their early twenties, the potential of the band has been recognised by legendary producer/songwriter Kim Fowley (The Byrds, Gram Parsons, Warren Zevon, John Lennon) who invited them to record with him. Displaying a determined work ethic and achieving prolific output, The Fortunate Sons have concieved a rich sound knee-deep in the blues, tinged with impressive harmonies. Currently unsigned, the band's highly accomplished live performances are not to be missed!

The Grim Northern Social
The Grim Northern Social are:- Andy Cowan: Keyboards / Backing Vocals Pete Cowan: Bass Ewan MacFarlane: Vocals / Guitar Liam McAteer: Drums Tommy Regan: Guitar / Backing Vocals The Grim Northern Social all hail from around Glasgow and cite a wide range of influences, including David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and Curtis Mayfield. The band first started to turn people’s heads at the UK’s ‘In The City’ festival in 2001 where they were nominated Best Unsigned Band. A record deal wasn’t slow in coming, and they duly signed to One Little Indian records, who released their debut single ‘Honey’ in May 2003, and it’s follow up ‘Urban Pressure’ a few months later, both of which entered the Official UK singles chart. The singles were followed by their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album in September 2003 – featured as an ‘album of the year’ online at Rolling Stone. The band toured throughout 2003 to promote their album, and appeared as the guests of several touring artists including, Elvis Costello and Simple Minds, over and above headlining their own tour. They performed in front of over 100,000 people at the ‘Big In Falkirk’ Festival and made a triumphant appearance at ‘T In The Park’ Festival in front of Scotland’s First Minister Jack McConnell, a huge fan of the band! This year, the band have returned to the studio to commence the writing and recording of new material; however, given their reputation for astounding live performances, they are still in high demand for gigs here and there. In March, they were amongst the British artists selected to perform at the South By South West Festival in Austin, Texas where their show quickly sold out, leaving people queuing up outside, blocking the street and hoping to catch a glimpse of them playing!

The Hector Collectors
the Hector Collectors were initially formed in 1965 when we got a phone call from Wilson Pickett. Wilson needed a back up band for his tour of the outer Hebrides. Unfortu8nately, we couldn't remember his number..35 years later, the dream has come full circle...... Iain- Whilst on a drunken rampage on the Isle of Man, Jim Davidson accidently pressed a rabbit against his face creating a slab of mystical cheese. This cheese was found 20 years later, and was placed in postion of maximum security. Also about this time, the Hector Collectors were formed. Oh yes!

Accomplished musicians with live European experience, the band started working with Sincy in the spring of 2001 & are currently busy recording for their self-released debut album. A future tour of the UK & Europe is planned for the end of this year. Lothians finest exponents of Progressive New-Wave, three years in the making, The Incendiary Bats are primed and ready to rock your world. In the summer of 2003 a group of like minded musicians, artists and the likes commandeered a disused hanger in the East Lothian countryside for the purpose of partying and musical experimentation. From the resultant sessions and jams emerged a four piece that would become The Incendiary Bats. Having been described as one of the most interesting local bands on the scene at the moment, the New Rock Chemists splice indie guitars with electro synth sounds along with lyrics that the man/woman on the street can relate to. Formed at the end of 2004 the Chemists were originally a three piece act. After a few line-up changes they are now a four piece with the three original members Mark Hutchison, Craig Morris and Paul Hutchison hailing from Ballingry and Joe Coyle from Dunfermline. The Chemists played their first gig in May 2006 and since then have played all over Fife, having had some memorable nights along the way. As well as still playing their gigs in Fife, they have begun expanding further a field to the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Glasgow 4-piece The Riot - Eddie, The Mighty G, thedodge and Gavstar - had been in various bands over the years, but after their paths crossed at gigs and jam sessions many times they discovered a shared love of music and decided to get together and have a go at writing their own material. So far the results have been impressive. The powerful and raw vocals recall Daltrey and Marriott at their best and is the perfect focal point for the bands short, sharp, punchy bursts of Garage- Rock. The melodic but powerful guitar work is ably supported by a Rocking rhythm section. Songwriting is the core of the bands sound however and all four of the lads contribute, each bringing their own personality and influence to the songs.

The Rise
Global Battle of the Bands Best New Band Scotland 2005 The Rise are a young, original 4 piece from Dundee and have been together as a band for just over 2 years, starting off as a typical indie band the guys soon found there sound in a harder rock/dance genre. Consisting of: Kevin ‘Johno’ Johnston (Vocals, Bass Guitar) John Nicoll (Lead Guitar) Alan Turner (Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals) Andy Beattie (Drums) Pounding beats and screaming vocals are accompanied by driving riffs and good old fashioned rock n roll bring this band together. In there first 12 months the band had self organized and funded over 20 gigs in Dundee, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Aberdeen & Glasgow including a requests to support Whole Lotta Led (Led Zeppelin tribute band) and The Complete Stone Roses (Stone Roses tribute band). The band has continued in the same vain playing more self organized gigs over the following 6 months. The time had then come for them to record there first ‘proper’ EP. Time was taken in finding the correct studio and producer, after a number of months a studio by the name of T.Pot in Perthshire and a producer named Robyn Wynn Evans were chosen. The excluded studio out in the country was the perfect retreat for the band and Robyn’s vision of what he could do with the bands music was along the same as ourselves. Robyn had produced artists such as Sam Brown, Manic Street Preachers and, most successfully, Dodgy’s Free Peace Sweet. Over two hectic days the band came out with a solid 4 song EP of newly written material. Gigging on the back of the EP came thick and fast and more gigs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness followed. The EP, only available on sale at gigs, sold over 500 copies in just 3 months. A live acoustic session with Marion Scott @ Moray Firth Radio, Inverness followed and invites to meet local record companies came flooding in. The band currently are still managing, self-promoting and self-funding themselves. Lately a homecoming gig in Dundee’s Reading Rooms saw over 200 people come to see the city’s best band, an invite to play Inverness Belladrum Fringe festival and the bands first appearance at legendary King Tuts in Glasgow have kept the boys busy. Up to date news includes an invitation for a return to King Tuts on 31st October and a support slots for Rick Witter (ex Shed Seven) & Proud Mary at Fat Sams in Dundee. Venturing to Glasgow’s Soundhaus to compete for best new band in Scotland the band came up against stiff competition with 15 other bands competing also. After listening to all bands the judges decision came out as The Rise were to take that accolade back to Dundee with them and of course on to London’s Astoria on December 7th 2005. Please check out www.gbob.com for more details. Currently after writing new tunes the band are in discussions to record and release there second EP.

The Ronelles
Brought together by a mutual love of all things rock 'n' roll, The Ronelles formed in Spring 2004 and have been causing a stir on the Glasgow live scene ever since. Brothers Raymond (22) and Daniel (20) had already built themselves a reputation for musical greatness around the city as one half of The Pedestrians, but when they decided to get together with old school friends John (24) and David (24) and formed The Ronelles, their musical output went from great to quite simply phenomenal. Wearing their influences proudly on their sleeves, it sounds like The Ronelles spent most of their childhood days pinching records from their parents' collections. Few bands these days would name-drop Robert Johnson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry among their biggest influences, and while more might mention The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and The Jam, few put these influences to as good use as The Ronelles. Solid tunes and flawless musicianship set The Ronelles apart from the current influx of rock 'n' roll wannabes, and while style is undoubtedly important to the regularly leather-clad and suitably retro-barnetted Ronelles, their stunning tunes and tight live performances prove they are anything but another bunch of bandwagon-jumping trendies. Not just another rock 'n' roll band, The Ronelles are THE rock 'n' roll band, the ultimate and the best, with the attitude and the ambition to make sure they won't go unnoticed for long. Lock up your daughters and girlfriends, hide the ale and hold on tight - The Ronelles are coming, and they're not leaving until they've rocked your socks off, broken your heart, turned your world upside down and firmly established themselves as the modern day heroes of rock 'n' roll. The Ronelles have played to crowds at many of the UK's most popular venues, including the legendary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut and Londons "Death Disco"

The Scottish Enlightenment
The Scottish Enlightenment's debut album, released 29/04/06 and entitled Volo ut Sis, is out on Moojuice records, and available to buy from the website, or from CDBaby.

The Scottish Enlightenment is what it is to the ears. But to the retro-directed mind, it formed out of the bedraggled remnants of two previous bands, when, at the yawning of 2005, said pair of pairs met and joined. Followed practice, recording and live-ness. That is to say, followed music-making, that’s all. What else could one possibly want to know…

The Statler Project
The Statler Project formed in late summer 2003. All band members come from the east end of Glasgow, Scotland. After two years of practising in various studios around Glasgow, The Statler Project have played at venues such as the Carling Academy, Barfly, Rockers, ABC, G2, the Arches and Nice and Sleazy's. The Statler Project have too many influences to mention and don't adhere to any set styles or categories. We make quality music and hope to get signed in the near future. We now have a strong pool of material and plan to gig more often, taking our music further afield and to a wider audience. You have to see us play live for full effect.

The Trade
As has happened many times before for many other bands, they split and new ones are formed! In the case of the members of 'The Trade' this happened and never was there a bigger blessing! 5 guys from different backgrounds of work, music and play were all called to for a band to 'give it a go'! Why dream and wait, just try to make it happen! Drums - Bobo Martin Lead Guitar - Craig Murray 2nd Guitar - Liam Moir Bass - Drew McLaren Vocals - Ross Milne Indie - Rock! Fresh sound! We have known each other for years off and on. We all knew each other could play, or at least liked to make a sound. When we got together we had decided it was time to see what we could do and within the space of 4 months meeting once a week we had enough tracks to record our first album, Empire! Everything just seemed to click! It's not often that there is so much commitment and enthusiasm from all members of a band... we just love making music! Give us a listen. We are building an Empire! Uncle Fritz
22 year old Fraser Stewart is yet another addition to the ever-increasing talent hailing from the Scottish city of Dundee under the musical persona of Uncle Fritz. Over the last few years he has become an established and accomplished solo artist through live performances in and around Dundee while his delicate, melancholy, acoustic orientated music has provoked positive comparisons to the likes of Elliot Smith, Nick Drake and The Red House Painters. Having released his debut album, Nine Songs in February through the Dundee based indie label, Pet Piranha Records, Uncle Fritz has been heavily involved in the local live scene, promoting the release of the album. Most notably these have included playing alongside U.S, anti-folk artists such as Viking Moses and Jana Hunter through to appearances in both Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh, the latter supporting Scottish, victory rock heroes, Laeto. Presently he is organising more shows all over Scotland, which have included a showcase at this years Go North Festival in Aberdeen and also drawing up plans to record and release a second album. Since learning the guitar at the age of 16, Fraser has constantly strived to improve his musical talent and it has been met with great success. A keen painter, the expressionistic and retrospective nature of his art is evident in the songs that make up his debut. Live, his singing and guitar playing have seen loud, rowdy audiences reduced to silence and on occasion, have brought individual audience members to tears! It is through the lack of invitations to form bands at school that has driven Fraser to become an extremely talented solo writer, producing songs that have absolutely no need for back-up, musical instrumentation and that can stand perfectly on their own. However, the absence of collaborators is no longer an issue as he has recently formed and fronts Perineum, his adrenaline-fuelled, heavy metal side project, which beautifully demonstrates yet another side to his creativity. Having never been much of a conformist, the nature of Uncle Fritz’s music is quite often confrontational and vitriolic, especially within his lyrics but when set against the sweet melodies and relaxed tones of his guitar playing and singing it creates an air of complete reflection for the listener. Songs such as ‘Insect’ and ‘Baby Blue’ demonstrate this and in turn has made individuals describe the music as being ‘lost in a daydream’. It’s this quality that is present in all Uncle Fritz songs. With the increasing accumulation of new material, the next step for Uncle Fritz after the next confirmed live dates is to return to the studio and record a follow-up to the greatly received, Nine Songs. It is likely that it will be delivered through Pet Piranha Records and will be in keeping with the logistics of its predecessor, emphasising the sensibilities of one voice and one guitar as well as featuring elements like backing harmonies and simple key parts, qualities that make Nine Songs the intimate listening experience that it is. Be sure to catch him next time he is playing a small venue near you before his appeal becomes nationwide!

"Fellow Falkirk dirty-bed singers Arab Strap are old mates with Stuart and the boys from Viva Stereo although their styles have intertwined over the years you'd have to go back to the Straps first album and in particular the song The First Big Weekend to fully sum up the movement and thinking behind Viva Stereo. The Viva Stereo boys have just finished writing their first publication entitled "How to build a song up into a crescendo starting from a Nick Drake whisper and then turning it over at 150bpm into a psychedelic MC5 homage loud enough to make you stamp your f@cking heels through the Star & Garter floor" we wish them all the best with the sales of that publication and look forward to seeing them on the 19th. Wakeover
Wakeover are a four piece rock band from Glasgow, aka “The Alternative Fantastic Four” - they do the things other bands can only dream of. They pride themselves on their catchy hooks, huge choruses and an energetic and highly polished live performance. Wakeover is: James Lwanda – 26 years old, James has been singing with bands and solo on the Glasgow acoustic scene for 7 years. His soulful, powerful vocals help Wakeover stand out from the crowd in the rock market. Martin Rennie – 22 years old, Martin is a hugely innovative and creative guitarist, and his overall sense of musicianship is highlighted in the dynamic diversity of styles he expertly fuses on this CD. His tremendous technique is offset by his alt rock sensibilities, which combine to make him a bona fide guitar superstar of the future. Lauren Stephen – 21 years old, it is no idle boast to say that Lauren is one of the best bassists in Scotland, with her tremendous versatility in terms of playing styles and genres complemented by a keen musical brain. David Hamill – 24 years old, Dave has been drumming for 10 years with various bands but thing really clicked once he found Wakeover, as his groove-laden style and intelligent beats complement the band perfectly. The band have played throughout Scotland, including King Tuts, Barfly and Whistle Binkies, in various incarnations in the past, and have already attracted record label interest since forming Wakeover last year.

Weird Attractors
With six years’ experience of noising up club crowds in their hometown, Weird Attractors are old favourites amongst Edinburgh partygoers and have achieved something akin to cult status on the city’s underground circuit. After a highly successful mini-tour of Germany and France in July '04, the band's fanbase is ever expanding. They have just returned from 2 shows in France (Perigueux, Fri 13 May amd Agen, Sat 14 May) and are looking forward to a larger scale tour of Germany in September '05. UK dates this summer include their third trip to Glastonbury Festival in june, and Launch nights for a new EP in Edinburgh and Glasgow at the end of July. Now trimmed down to a five-piece, Weird Attractors continue to explore their unique approach to live dance music using high-energy percussion infused with synths, samples and brass: a cross-pollination of world-rhythms and the urban sounds of hiphop, jungle and breakbeat.

White Flag Agenda
The White Flag Agenda (WFA) vision is – to bring something different to the current music scene that has a surplus of indie artists. The band isn’t dedicated to one particular genre, just their passion to rock. Working together writing their own material, grafting, shaping and developing their sound, the band emerged in Spring 2007. A blend of heavy rock, interspersed with beautiful melodies, cutting lyrics and haunting guitar solos has seen their fan base rapidly grow on their home soil in Fife, Scotland. They rocked their first gig in Thornton by winning a local battle of the bands. Since then, WFA have performed locally at indoor and outdoor events – all with amazing feedback. WFA spent this summer in the recording studio, meticulously crafting each track and sweating blood to create their self-titled 6 - track EP. It was recorded and mixed entirely by the band in their own studio; the quality of the EP speaks for itself. WFA is currently gigging in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland and are seeking suitable support slots to tour the U.K. so they can spread the WFA sound and to grab the attention of more fans with their unforgettable live performances. The guys have now come of age. They have talent, passion amounting to a unique and powerful sound. It won’t be long before White Flag Agenda are playing in a city near you. Who's Your Mama NOW?
Hey guys :) The best thing about Who's your mama NOW? is that we absolutely enjoy playing together! We are a 5 piece Edinburgh band, playing both covers and original material, influenced by blues, funk, jazz and soul (amongst other things). The band's ideal is to blend music from various cultures to put a new slant on the established musical traditions. "Your Mama" believes that this brings people together and allows people to appreciate, through music, how diverse our world is. The band was originally formed in April 2008 when Viara met Rodrigo and Xose at college in Edinburgh, where the three of them study PopularMusic. Sergio and Charlotte, both Edinburgh musicians, joined later. The band mostly plays in Edinburgh, Scotland, but also likes to tour. In 2008 "Your Mama" performed at the Fringe in Edinburgh, on the blues trail during the Maryport Blues festival(Jul 2008), represented the UK at the Balkan Youth Festival in Bulgaria(Sept2008), and triumphantly finished the year with a Christmas and New Year tour of Portugal(Dec2008-Jan2009). Who's Your Mama Now? have already been invited to a couple of festivals around Europe so watch this space for updates! We have a rapidly growing fanclub as our music seems to be highly addictive :) We'd love to hear from you and to meet you at our gigs! Please DO comment on gigs you've been to, as we appreciate the feedback and also let us know if you'd like us to gig in your town! We have a CD, that you are able to buy at our gigs, and sooon at designated websites/shops :))) Thanks for your support and keep music LIVE!

Yellow Bentines
The short version: Yellow Bentines are a 6 piece band from Glasgow. If you can be bothered reading, here's a brief history (the long version!) Yellow Bentines were formed in May 2004 from the ashes of the popular Glasgow band The Devotions who had supported the likes of Keane, The Glitterati and The Parkinsons. Martin Hay and Peter Hall originally created the band as a side project so that they could perform some of their acoustic and piano based songs that would have never fitted in a Devotions set. However when 'The Devotions' split in July 2004 Yellow Bentines became the focus of their attention. A month passes and the boys decide to get a rhythm section for the band, up steps Graham Lough on bass/backing vocals and Andy Hall on Drums. The Bentines now have a much bigger sound and are ready to play live but something is still missing. Before their first gig in August 2004 David Hay is recruited to play trumpet in a few songs, this eventually turns into every song and the Yellow Bentines are finally complete. Months go happily by while the Bentines get more and more gigs under their collective belt. They support bands like Editors and Brakes, receive airplay, collect more fans and get more and more confident with each show. But then disaster. Having fulfilled his lifelong dream to be in a band David decides its time to settle down, unfortunately for the rest of the guys he wants to settle in Australia. The hunt for a trumpet player begins. Adverts go up everywhere and anywhere and eventually Yellow Bentines find a willing and able trumpeteer. Or two. Not being a band to turn their noses up at a two for one deal both Sarah Findlay and Chris Connor are swiftly enrolled into the ranks of the Bentines and those trumpet harmonies had never sounded sweeter. Everything is going great and couple of months pass. The band had played a few more gigs, supported the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and gained even more fans. But the next big blow was just round the corner, when Graham Lough and the Yellow Bentines parted ways. In Grahams own words his leaving was not down to 'artistic differences' it was something more poignant, emotionally distressing and wholly indescribable, at least outside a court of law. This was definitely a sad time for everyone involved and indeed a low point for the Bentines, however there were gigs on the horizon and bass player shaped hole in the band that desperately needed filling. There was only one man for the job, or should that be one man willing to do the job: Ruairidh Galbraith, the teenage guitar hero for the distant land of Taynuilt, Near Oban, just a two hour drive up the A82. The band was once more fighting fit and ready for gigging action no matter how many pairs of knickers are thrown at Connor....
