| "Although 3kyoti studio was originally conceived and created (in mid-2002) as a high-end, fully transportable recording system*, I jumped at the opportunity in June 2003 to take over a space in the West End of Glasgow just off Argyle Street that had been used until recently as a rehearsal and work room by The Blue Nile and, before that, Teenage Fanclub. It is still early days for the room-based project and the studio is constantly evolving, but I have been very encouraged by results on recent projects.
"I prefer, wherever possible, to capture ensemble performances with little or no separation, applying appropriate mic technique while treating spill between instruments as a positive and integral part of the sound picture. And after many years operating studios around the world in traditional control room / recording room set-ups, I find it both refreshing and inspiring to have all the recording gear in the same room as the artist. The advantage of the engineer / producer being in direct communication with the musicians and so able to feel directly what is occurring in the recording room leads to a far more enjoyable, relaxed and productive recording experience.
"I've chosen Nuendo, Cubase SX and Wavelab as main recording software as they both suit my operational style and are the most sonically rewarding to my ears. Of course it is perfectly possible to import audio from other programs and formats for remix and additional production roles.

The last year has seen the recording studio take massive leaps forward in both the analogue and digital domain.We finally took the plunge into the world of digital recording by adding Digidesigns world famous Pro Tools to the studio,
This was no easy feat for a studio with a passion for all things that use valves and tape but the recent improvements in audio quality of digital recording and the flexibility can't be denied. Any fears you might have about seeing Andy in an empty control room except for a keyboard and a computer screen will be immediately allayed when you see our new Amek desk.
It takes at least six people to lift and we had to remove the control room window to get it in because there was no way it was coming through the door. I know this souns a bit like "check out the size of our desk" but we at Chem19 truly believe, without any scientific proof, that the bigger the piece of equipment, the better. Trust us.

 | The studio started life in 1980 as a 16 track and was used by such local bands as DEACON BLUE, THE BLUEBELLS, ALTERED IMAGES, LLOYD COLE and LOVE AND MONEY to make their first demos.
In 1984 the studio was upgraded to 24 track with new control, recreation and shower rooms being added. Since then, the list of clients who have recorded albums and singles at Park Lane reads like a who's who of Scottish music:- TEXAS, G.U.N, DEL AMITRI, BIG COUNTRY, HIPSWAY and WET WET WET.
Also both of the critically acclaimed albums, THE NECTERINE No.9 and Paul Quinn, were recorded at Park Lane by the in house producer KENNY MacDONALD. The studio also attracts bands from outwith Scotland, such as, THE PET SHOP BOYS, INXS and more recently the FUGEES, and from the 'POP' market, WEST LIFE, GARETH GATES, DARIUS, and the highly respected SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR.
The studio has managed to maintain respectability with the signed bands and its Record Company clientele while still attracting young demo bands many of who have gained major deals after one Park Lane demo. such as:- TRAVIS, THE AC ACOUSTICS, WHITEOUT, THE SMILES, HARDBODY and BABY CHAOS.
And more recently ones to watch out for!...ASHTON LANE, JULIA~thirteen and EL PRESIDENTE.
Due to the success of the studio these bands continue to return and have enabled the studio to purchase and invest in new equipment.

Recording, Mixing & Mastering plus all thing audio in a relaxed, creative & productive atmosphere.
WE ARE OPEN - 7 days a week and we run two sessions per day 10am-6pm & 6pm-2am. At the weekends the basic cost to work with me in the studio is £25 per hour but we do a deal of £180 for a full eight hours. Weekday sessions are £22.50 per hour with a full eight hours costing £160.
IF COST IS A CONCERN - i also employ a very talented Junior Engineer (Alistair Gibson or 'Gibby') available for £18 per hour or £130 for a full eight hours at the weekend and £16 per hour or £115 for a full 8 hours during the week - same great gear, same lovely analogue desk & studio but a wee bit easier on the pocket.
NOTE ON MASTERING - Every full day of recording comes with a completely free, separate Mastering session. Why? If you have just spent 8hrs mixing there is no way you can be objective about anything!, nevermind be able to make the kind of precise judgements needed to properly Master an audio track to perfection.
We care more about how your music sounds than what it all costs, so we always Master the next morning with a clear head and a fresh pair of ears.
STUDENTS AND SOLO ARTISTS - If your band has members who are students, so long as at least half (for example: if there's 5 members then it's gotta be at least 3 of you) are in full-time education and have your student cards to prove it then i am happy to give you 10% off all of my services. Likewise if you are a solo artist, i am happy to give you 10% off all of my services.

We don’t use Pro Tools and we don’t use pre-sets, why? - Well, we don’t want to sound like everyone else and neither do you! (surely if everybody is using the same sequencer and the same plug-ins DOESN'T IT ALL SOUND THE SAME!?) Every project is recorded and mixed from fresh, each with it’s own individual sound. You’ve worked hard to create your own sound so we work hard to make sure we capture it as you intended! That’s why we record and mix through beautifully maintained and well loved analogue equipment - because it sounds better! If you wanted to record and mix inside a computer using plug-ins you could do that at home!
Oh and another thing, look at our pics of the studio. You see a pleasant, clean, creative environment with nice analogue gear, great amps and quality equipment.

| The Old Mill Recording Studios
 | The Old Mill Recording Studios is located in a 17th century mill converted
into a live arts theatre. The Studio offers the relaxed and inspiring
enviroment of the old mill featuring the original stonework and high quality
acoustics of this historic building. Two main recording spaces are
available, the first being the main theatre the second a large live room.
The studio is a joint venture between two engineers, both are keen musical
enthusiasts and have been involved with their own bands, electronics,
engineering and recording for some time.
The Old Mill Studios offers professional recording without the price tag.
For £120 we offer 10 hours of recording, mixing and mastering with two
engineers all set within The Strathaven Town Mill. The Studio Setup records
digitally using Cubase SX 2.0 with a 24-track system. The studio is
available for singles, EP's, albums, Live recordings and other projects. The
