goEvents
 | Running from the Shetland Islands in the north to the Mull of Kintyre in the south, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland includes some of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland. Successive generations of creative talent have ensured that the area's impact on the world stage has been remarkable. Today a new wave of artists and innovators is carrying on their legacy.
The modern Highlands and islands have been shaped by a unique blend of cultures over the last 2,000 years. In the Northern Isles (Shetland and Orkney), the influence of Norse ancestors is still to be found in the arts and dialect, while the Gaelic culture is evident throughout much of the mainland and Western Isles. The eastern part of the region has many local traditions that have grown from the Scots language.
To this cultural mix add everything from MTV to digital downloads, and you have a wealth of music that ranges from the most traditional to the most contemporary, and which above all, is distinctive, exciting and alive.
goEVENTS was set up to support the work of Highlands and Islands Labels (HAIL) as it continues to develop the music industry of the Highlands and Islands, and to find ways of showcasing the most exciting talent coming out of the area, regardless of genre.
Our annual flagship event is goNORTH, which over the last three years has featured over 180 acts in more than 200 performances. 157 acts from 14 nations have played, but with the majority coming from Scotland. These showcases have created an opportunity to develop new partnerships both nationally and internationally.
Of the 157 showcased acts, to the best of our knowledge15 have gone on from goNORTH to sign some kind of record deal. Interest is also being shown in a number of others.
The region has great talent and an excellent track record, and is looking for project partners and networking opportunities both at home and internationally.
If you would like to know more about goEVENTS or HAIL and their work, or just to find out a bit more about the music in the Highlands and Islands, please get in touch. http://www.goevents.info

Leith Festival
 | Leith Festival continues to expand and this year we have developed the programme with more opportunities for everyone to come and take part.
We will give people the opportunity to get to know Leith through visits to more of Leith’s buildings through tours, recitals, concerts & exhibitions, live music events, comedy, theatre and the Parade and Gala Day on the Links.
Last year, thousands of Leither's (and more than a few visitors) joined the ‘Walk the Walk !’ parade from Pilrig Street to Leith Links, and this year we hope to have even more to show the rest of the country that Leith is a proud, committed, strong and thriving community.
Remember to put this year's Leith Festival dates into your diary and check out full details of the programme.
Most of all, remember to come to the events, enjoy them and support Leith, one of Scotland’s outstanding communities.
We hope to see you there !
