 | After Fab Gear rallied us with his stories of latent musical confusion, and impressed upon us the importance of zen and 8 track cassettes we went from making his tea (Earl Grey with 2 sugar LUMPS not spoons for anyone interested) to helping him get his label off the ground...Bands of relevance to NEMIS members are of course POPUP and The LOW MIFFS though we have many many other bands from around the world...Fab's tastes stretch far and wide hence we are not tied by genre or geography, if it's good it's good and if we like it we'll release it...Simple as that. We think NEMIS is a great thing since it's a definite tool to D.I.Y. (better than even the electric sander) plus it's aims are for the good of the scene NOT the industry...therefore we think that everyone should support and donate to NEMIS whenever possible...it's easy to fall into the slack and take for granted a tool like this...DON'T!!!

Bands currently on the label are Belfast trio Desert Hearts, Glasgow's De Rosa, Lanarkshire's Emer and acoustic/electronica collective PAN.
Gargleblast Rehearsals studios (formerly Chem19 rehearsals) are situated in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. The studio has 3 purpose built rooms for hire in 3 hour blocks. Marshall, Peavey and Carlsboro amps are currently available along with Pearl drum kits (please bring your own cymbals) and a full vocal P.A. We use Shure sm58 vocal mics.
Rates are £25 for 3 hour session. £20 weekdays before 6pm. Opening hours are 9am to midnight.

Highlands & Islands Labels (HAIL)
 | Running from the Shetland Islands in the north to the Mull of Kintyre in the south, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland includes some of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland. Successive generations of creative talent have ensured that the area’s impact on the world stage has been remarkable. Today a new wave of artists and innovators is carrying on their legacy.
The modern Highlands and islands have been shaped by a unique blend of cultures over the last 2,000 years. In the Northern Isles (Shetland and Orkney), the influence of Norse ancestors is still to be found in the arts and dialect, while the Gaelic culture is evident throughout much of the mainland and Western Isles. The eastern part of the region has many local traditions that have grown from the Scots language.
To this cultural mix add everything from MTV to digital downloads, and you have a wealth of music that ranges from the most traditional to the most contemporary, and which above all, is distinctive, exciting and alive.
HAIL (Highlands and Islands Labels) began life in 2000 as a trade group representing the record labels in the area, but has now grown to work with the breadth and depth of the local music industry: from working artists, record labels, promoters and distributors to those involved in training and developing new talent. Our aim is to see the growth of the industry in the Highlands and Islands, and help develop its international reputation.
The region has great talent and an excellent track record, and is looking for project partners and networking opportunities both at home and internationally.

Inspired by people who make themselves like King Creosote, by people who get signed up big and remain cool too. Musically influenced by Neil Young, Elliott Smith, King Creosote, Neutral Milk Hotel, Tom Waits, The Elected, and anyone who uses drum machines and synthesisers with organic instrumentation. New Transmitters

A FREE, live showcase will launch the CD and website, www.newtransmitters.net, this Saturday (25th June) from 1-4pm at the Oasis Youth Centre, Newall Terrace, Dumfries. Some of the bands and artists involved in the project will be performing live and the CD will also be available for sale and signing!
The broad range and style of the music from original Blues and Rock to Pop and Traditional Scottish tunes means that there is something here for all tastes. Tracks are by up-and-coming young musicians including Robert Shields from Castle Douglas, Two Door Rule and PRE (Post Rock Evolution) - Moffat; Pack of Lies - Dumfries area; Lewis Fergusson - Dumfries; Tauntra -Annan; The Remnant - Newton Stewart; Michael Haywood - Lockerbie; Reel Rhythm - Thornhill and also features the Dumfries & Galloway Regional Youth Choir. Path Records
 | Path Records was founded in January 1999 by John Hutchison, then owner of the music venue The Path Tavern in Kirkcaldy. A family run pub since 1962, The Path that year won Scottish Licensed Trade News Music Pub of The Year beating off stiff competition from every licensed venue in the country, an award which it was to narrowly miss out on in 2001 coming in as runner up to none other than Glasgow’s King Tut’s.
Behind the label was a wish to both promote the venue and provide an outlet for the undoubted musical talent which existed at the time in Fife, with several excellent bands having no other window to promote their music to a larger audience.
Path Records has since released 6 singles by four different acts three of whom hailed from Fife.

Our main artists are the cool popsters Gum, fronted by the beautiful and enigmatic Leigh Myles. Gum’s music has been described as being ‘so slinky that it could flip-flop down a flight of stairs by itself’.
Their debut album Low-flying Kites was released to favourable reviews in 2003.
It featured a clutch of great tunes and some spooky atmospherics, all brought into focus by some top-notch production.
Their current release is the mini-album 'Seven Feeble Alibis' which sees the Gum project move into altogether more muscular terrritory.
This album is darker and more dynamic than their previous material; the songs are deep and often brooding, but the multi-layered backing vocals lift some of the killer choruses to truly dizzying heights.
Serali’s other signing is The Eisenhowers. This loose collective, based around the songwriting of Raymond Weir, plays adult-oriented pop.
It’s an eclectic mix, with the key influences being: Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, Jellyfish, Steely Dan, XTC, Jimmy Webb and REM.
The debut album 'Almost half-undressed' features 12 literate, punchy and thoughtful songs about sex, celebrity, love, money, parenthood and serial killers.
